I would argue that the proper use of IDisposable in the code prevents your proposed attack. Just from a quick browse you are doing at least one thing wrong: Your wrapper class is not marked as critical for finalization I would not even have to circumvent memory protection, just nuke the process at the right time and I got your passwords in plaintext. As is best practice, indeed the exposure time is limited and SecureString keeps it encrypted while kept in memory. That's about the best anyone can reasonably hope for.

All you do is limit the exposure time of the password value in memory. It is super dangerous to assume the passwords are safe from prying eyes just by using SecureString. ISBoxer EVE Launcher can be used with or without ISBoxer/Inner Space! (As shown in the screenshot, you can just click to "Launch Non-Inner Space")

The download and instructions are available at the github link. People developing custom EVE Launchers may benefit immensely from forking this source code. I will admit I have not looked at the source of many other EVE Launchers, but from discussions with people in IRC and browsing the source or having seen bits of others, I can say that they do make mistakes on their security implementation for example IsBridgeUp came up recently - IsBridgeUp stores account information encrypted, but then also stores the keys the encryption only serves to prevent a plaintext password from appearing in the file, not to stop an attacker from gaining access if he wants to. Even the official EVE Launcher indicates its login saving is insecure (ISBoxer EVE Launcher does not make the same security compromise). This can all be verified by other security experts by perusing the source code. Passwords are also never kept insecure in memory. Any passwords kept by ISBoxer EVE Launcher can only be stored if a Master Password is configured, which is then used to encrypt any stored passwords. Why use this one? Well, even if you don't use ISBoxer or Inner Space, this launcher will securely save your EVE account passwords (saving them is optional, see screenshot), and can multi-launch your EVE accounts. I personally suspect that it has to do with the patcher. So someone was having connectivity issues, or perhaps some router issues along the way.
